Summit of Mayors 2018

On the margins of the International Forum "Russian Energy Week" the International Summit of Mayors on Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development of Cities was held on 3rd of October in Moscow.

Participants of the event discussed issues of improving energy efficiency and environmental friendliness of the transport sector, harmonization of energy data collection in cities and general issues of energy efficiency. City representatives also discussed steps to further development of the international Russian-Korean initiative. The summit of mayors was held for the third time in the framework of the Sustainable Cities and Eco-energy town initiative, launched by Russia together with South Korea at Clean Energy Ministerial.

The event was attended by leaders of more than 15 Russian and foreign cities, including Lima (Peru), Novosibirsk, Gainesville (USA), Irkutsk, as well as representatives of such leading international organizations as the International Energy Agency (IEA), the International Partnership for Cooperation in Energy Efficiency (IPEEC), Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM).

Following the discussion, the next 2019 year in the framework of the Sustainable Cities and Eco-energy town initiative was declared the year of the development of environmentally friendly fuels in transport and data harmonization in cities and rural areas. An international ranking of cities on these topics will be presented during the next summit.

The Summit also hosted the ceremony of joining new participants to the international Declaration on Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development, which has already united about 50 cities from all over the world, representing more than 40 million inhabitants.
