International summit of the mayors on energy efficiency and sustainable development of cities
On the margins of the International Forum on Energy Efficiency and Development of Energy "Russian Energy Week" the International Summit of Mayors on Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development of Cities was held.
The event was attended by representatives of more than 20 Russian and foreign cities, as well as the governance of such leading international organizations as the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the German Energy Agency (dena), the Copenhagen Center for Energy Efficiency at the United Nations, CDP.
Within the framework of the Summit, the Ministry of Energy of Russia and the Agency for Strategic Initiatives (ASI) presented a joint project "Energy Efficient City for People". In the framework of this project, initiatives are being worked out in such areas as the transition to energy-efficient lighting with the creation of areas with an attractive light environment, the introduction of weather regulation of heating systems in the housing and budget sectors, the implementation of demonstration projects using renewable energy sources in the urban space (highlighting road signs, traffic lights, lighting in parks, etc.).
"According to the experts support of such initiatives can provide investment flows in energy saving and sustainable development of cities in the period of 2018-2024 and will undoubtedly create qualitatively new environment for urban residents," said Deputy Minister Anton Inyutsin.
Representatives of the cities also discussed the stages and format of international benchmarking in 6 key areas: buildings, transport, smart city, heat supply, lighting and renewable energy sources. This research is an integral part of the international initiative on energy efficiency and sustainable development of cities, headed by Russia in June 2017 at the Clean Energy Ministerial 8.
As a result of the Summit, the ceremony of joining new participants to the International Declaration on Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development of Cities took place, which unites around 40 cities from all over the world.
